Basic Cable to HDTV ( Without subscribing with a box )?

Question:

I want to know the best way to go about getting HDTV from basic cable into a secondary room ( bedroom ) where the HDTV is in. I've done this in my old place before, as basic cable is provided in the rent. My new place has the same set up, but for some reason I'm getting major signal loss.

I'm using regular cable wire found in most stores, and two splitters, as I'm sending the signal from the living room, to two different tv's. One of them being my HDTV. I can't seem to pick up any HD channels, even after 8pm. They are there, because I have picked them up, but I can't seem to keep them.

I'll say over 100 feet of cable is needed, and I'll be installing this myself. I need to know if it's possible to get the signal with this amount of wire, and what kind of wire/splitters should I be trying to get?

Is it possible to get the signal with 100 feet of wire?

well to go 100 feet you will need a signal amp of at least 10db most of these are adjustable gain. As for the wire itself get the thicker one i believe it is rg59. Also the amp could be a 1 in and 2 out and boost both signals. but if you do that the amp has to be bidirectional if you have a cable box on either TV.

I'm going to assume that your tv is an HDTV with a QAM tuner. If it is not stop right here as you will not get HDTV without a box. If it does then you are attempting to send the signal much too far.100ft of wire? Just call your local cable company and tell them that you need a new outlet installed and they will rewire it all and even install an amp if you need it for about $40. If you buy an amp on your own you'll spend about that much. Give them a call, that is the easiest. You can't. All cable companies want to make you spend that extra $10-40 per month on extra equipment that is how they make thier chow. HDtv really means more tightly pixels from the tube that holds the electrons before shooting them out to the screen itself. It does not look any better than getting a LCD 19" computer screen.

Save your money and get an older tv because most of the network will be going analog in about 7-8 yrs. There are some good quaility LCD Monitor tv's for the bedroom under $250 w/DVD player.you decide but for the money keep it in your pocket and get satellite instead. Thanks.
