On HD digital cable, do HD programs have their own special channel?

Question:
Do HD programs have their own special channels? I was helping my cousin hook up her hdtv cable receiver to her hdtv television and was trying out just regular ESPN and CBS programs that I knew were broadcast in HD but they werent showing in HD it seemed. Then I come home to my house and look at listings on the net and I see that there might be an ESPN HD channel all by itself on a different channel that I was trying earlier, like I was trying ESPN ch. 25 and now I see there is this other ESPN HD channel that is on ch. 720, is this possible?
Yep. :D
Yes. HD channels are on a different channel/transponder number.
Yes1 You can see it on the digital cable guide.
Exactly right. You'll be able to watch the program in regular, standard definition, as well as high definition. Don't know why you'd want to watch it in standard def. but if you want to, you absolutely could!
as long as you have a HD cable box, you should be able to have at least the local stations in HD. Check with your local cable provider to see if there is a minimum package in order to get ESPN in hd
Comcast HD cable box menu guide will show you a list of HD channels separately from non-HD channels, as well as a list of all channels.
