Directv HD DVR troubleshooting issue?

Question: We just bought a new Directv HD DVR. However, wasn't aware that I would need 2 satellite cables, but anyways, they are going to come do that. In the meantime, my HD channels aren't as crystal clear as they were before, they seem rather soft. Any suggestions or ideas??

Answer:
An "unclear" picture can be caused by a number of different things. On HD receivers the most common cause is a lower resolution. Try pressing the format button. That will switch you thru all of the resolutions (480, 720 or 1080) and screen formats (crop, stretch, or pillarbox if you have widescreen). Also try turning off native mode (Press menu, select help & settings, select setup, select display, next to "Native" it should say off...if it says on, hi-lite on, press select, and select on off). If its still not clear on HD channels, reset the receiver by opening the flip down door on the front right side and press the red reset button. If its still not coming thru call DTV to troubleshoot. The most common cause of pictures not coming thru clearly or seeming blurry is the resolution and screen format
