I am wanting to connect my TV, Satellite Dish, DVD Player and CD Player to my Receiver?
Question:
Answer:
It sounds like you need a switch box. This is a multiplexer that has several sets of inputs and one output. You'd connect your satellite box, DVD player, and CD player to the switch, the switch to the receiver, and the receiver to the TV.
What kind of switch you buy depends on the types of inputs you need. I use the Audio Authority 1154A for component inputs (Xbox 360, Xbox, PS2, Gamecube) and the Audio Authority 1177 for audio sources (my DVD player uses HDMI for video output, so I run its optical audio output into the 1177 along with my PS2 optical audio output. The 1177 then connects its output to the input port on the 1154A that has the PS2 video, and all of that goes into the receiver). There are other, cheaper brands out there besides Audio Authority, but I like the features they provide (intelligent auto-switching, digital audio conversion between optical and coax inputs and outputs, stylish cases that can be wall mounted and look at home in an entertainment center, etc).
My home theater setup looks like this:
DVD video (HDMI) -> TV
DVD audio (optical) -> AA1177
PS2 video (component) -> AA1154A
PS2 audio (optical) -> AA1177
AA1177 audio (optical) -> AA1154A (same input as PS2 video)
Xbox audio/video (optical/component) -> AA1154A
Xbox 360 audio/video (optical/component) -> AA1154A
Gamecube audio/video (analog stereo/component) -> AA1154A
AA1154A audio/video (optical and analog stereo/component) -> receiver
Cable box audio/video (coax/component) -> receiver
receiver video (component) -> TV
I have a Phillips video selector. Its like a docking station. Four audio/video devices throught one box with s video.
If your receiver can handle all of those inputs , I see no reason why you could not hook them to your receiver
I would hook your video output signal from your satellite to your TV, but the audio output from your satellite I would send to the TV/Cable input of your receiver.
The same goes for your DVD player.
But if your TV has only one video input you might then run everything through your receiver and let it control all the signals, if it can handle it.
Your CD player you would hook up as you normally would through your receiver.
