Is a built-in tuner for HDTV necessary if you want HDTV through a DIRECTV dish?
Question:
I don't see why a built-in tuner is such a big deal. Don't most people get HD channels (including local channels) through a dish anyway?
Answer:
If you are satisfied with what you get from DirecTV, you don't need a tuner. However, DirecTV does not carry high defintion version of everything you can get from broadcast. If you get the DirecTV H20 receiver, it will get the local HD broadcasts that DirecTV is now carrying, but only the major networks so far. In any case, if you get the H20 high definition receiver from DirecTV, it has inputs for an antenna, and it has a good tuner, so if you want to, you can connect an antenna to it and have everything.
In summary, if you have DirecTV, you don't need a built-in tuner.
no you dont need a built-in tuner if using a receiver of another type. You will need a built-in tuner and a seperate atenna if you want HD for local channels because Directv does not offer this.
I think a built in tuner is a waste of time and money just stay w/ directv
You are correct. I get my local HD channels both ways.
