Do you agree Sky TV is a con?
Question:
Now is the time to act; there is something you can do. If you have subscribed for more than a year ring them up and cancel your subscription. When they ask why explain. They will offer you a reduction!
Answer:
Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.
We have Sky because we can't get freeview in our area - but if we could I would drop them like a shot. I don't pay the extras for the movie channels or sports...I only have the basic package (still about £20 a month) but it gives me more than I'd ever need...especially now that Film 4 has gone free...I can't think of a single reason why I would want to continue sky if I had an alternative.
I'm considering ringing them up and threatening to leave - but if they call my bluff I'll be left with no tv at all. The reception in my area is appaulling.
Roll on Freeview HD - that will kill Sky forever.
Yup, but theres an old saying - vote with your feet. I love football, but wont pay the prices of Sky. Anyway, it works out cheaper to go to the pub to watch the games, even taking into account the numerous beers you might have.
HATE football. LOVE people getting on to SKY to give them 5hit!
Hurt them hard. Money grabbing melon-farmers!!
Yes mate i entirely agree with you, Rupert Murdoch was the worst thing to happen to television in this country, he is a megalomaniac, he wants to control everything, television has got worse, and we are paying a lot more for it, they don't do good drama or comedy series, now its just repeats after repeats, and as for sports, why have they let him corner the market, no wonder he put money in to the Labour party, whats the old saying, 'MONEY TALKS'. And yes, i did cancel my subscription, as we all say, vote with your feet.
thats what i did,i rung them up complained said i was considering getting top up box,in the end they gave me 3 months free and another 3 months at half price.
yes, i went non subscription three years ago as the programs on the thousand channels they have are pure cow dung. Vote with your wallet.
Best is they now provide all the normal channels to me for free as "non subscription" so i dont pay anything for them.
yes
To be honest, no I don't think it's a scam but I DO think it's HUGELY expensive. Why there is no CHEAP package for those people who only want say 6 to 8 channels which they can choose themselves, I've no idea. They do have a basic package before anyone 'shouts' at me but you can't select the channels you get and let's face it, who on Earth wants over 90 channels anyway? I have problems sometimes deciding what to watch with only Freeview! :)
I have SKY Italia and hate it. Only have it to watch rugby.
We have to pay about £200 a year in Italy for TV tax. Do you in the UK? That's without SKY.
No
Welcome to my world here in the US. We've had cable for years and they companies played the same games with us! They try to take you for all they can and give you as little as they can!
One day you're paying and there are no ads which was cool, the next they raise the rates and have more ads than free tv!
What a scam!
I agree it's become somewhat of a luxury purchase compared to when sky first came out and was approx £6 a month for all the channels.
I now watch the premiership matches for free on the internet having found out how by reading an answer on here.
The best bit is, the more people that learn they can do this, the more people will leave sky. Spread the word.
i agree
Its not a scam, just a rip off. I agree - complain. And if you don't get any joy - just unsubscribe.
Sky TV is a rip off. When it first started, I remember that they only had Sky sports. A lot of people subscribed. But then every year, they make a new channel up, and make people buy those also.
Back Home in South Africa we could watch at least one sometimes more top premiership games a saturday and then again on the sunday and the monday night game on the satellite system which at that stage cost equivalent of about 30 quid.
When i moved over here i found it hard to get used to the fact that there wasnt always a game on sky sports on a saturday afternoon and if there was it was never the top teams i used to watch back home and this after forking out money for the top level sky subscription. Its scandolous that english football fans have to either make their way down to a pub or fork out extra cash for premplus to see their top teams in the game they all love so passionately. I say give the rights to a national broadcaster to show a top game for free on everyweekend as the public rightly deserves. Football is the peoples game it should be accessible to all people for free in the way F1 (they still make money from broadcast rights) is everywhere in the world.
I agree with your view that if you phone them and say you are going to cancel.
My digi box was faulty and they wanted £40 for a new one , I wanted to cancel and they ended up giving me a new box for free.
as for the football yes they are getting greedy and taking the p**s
yh it is. luckilly i am able to watch every arsenal game i want on the net. if u wanna watch footie games online let me know
Nobody can argue that the coverage Sky give football is superb, the number of games and the quality of the coverage they provide can't be argued with. Is it worth the money? No. Has it blighted football as we know it? Yes, definitely. Football has become a business now rather than a sport, but I don't see this as being purely Sky's fault. It's the fault of the club owners, the associations, all the greedy people that inhabit football. But it's not just football, it's the whole of society that's changed over the last ten years. I agree, cancel subscriptions (I'm going to), but don't think this is all Sky's fault.
I agree, they ;pay that much for exclusive rights they make us pay through the nose
The con is the BBC - you have to pay whether you watch it or not and their coverage is crap anyway.
Pay per view anyday. Then I would not be paying for stupid animal programmes where all they do is either eat or shag each other anyway.
They have doing this for ages now I cancelled my subscription 2 years ago.
never was a fan of sky to be quite frank as for footie sure a trip to the local boozer an a few bevvies goes quite well at the weekend
Money, money
