DirectTv DVR... I set it to record Survivor last night but it didn't.?

Question: I have two DVRs. I set one to record the regular channel and the other one to record an alternate channel (perhaps an HD channel...?) I'm new to DirectTv and their DVR's (had Cox before), what could I have done wrong?
