How to get over-the-air DTV channels using DirecTV H20 receiver without subscribing to DirecTV?

Question:
I bought an used DirecTV H20 HD receiver just to get over-the-air DTV programs. However, I realized it won't work without DirecTV subscription. Please let me know if there is a way I can still get the over-the-air DTV programs without DirecTV subscription.

Answer:
In a short answer NO

Long answer, the receiver that you bought has to have authorization in order to do anything, do you have a satellite hooked up to it, that is also a must. You would be better off going to best buy walmart, or the likes to buy a HD antennae
RF Moudulater Converts Digital Signals to analog there cheap but the receiver is illagel ( Stupid eh? )
All you need is an HDTV tuner and an antenna. It is perfectly legal to receive free digital channels off the air - without having an HD satellite receiver.

If your TV doesn't have a built in HDTV tuner, you can get a set top box. These are often referred to as:

HD tuners
Over the Air tuners
Off the Air tuners (OTA)
ATSC tuners

The market for these have declined over the years. However, the the shift to HD, I think they'll be more popular in the coming years since everyone isn't willing to upgrade their televisions.

You can find them here: http://topsatellitedeals.com/go/hdtv-ota...

I just want to warn you, they're not cheap.
