Dish network offers more channels as part of your standard package.
dish is by far. their satalites don't go down as often have had both, and dish is FAR better
Dish is cheaper. DirecTV has the YES Network. Ask people in your area who have them...

Here in CT the local phone company is AT&T and they have a partnership with Echostar (Dish) and provide additional discounts when you get their phone/tv/dsl package so it's a no-brainer for me.
Directv is better.
I had Dish at the last place I lived and I now have DirecTV.
With DirecTV, I have not had any problems with my picture or satellites when it is windy, raining or stormy.
I think that the channels are better. The lowest prices package has more channels than Dish's. I have a at least 10 more channels that I had before, including Speed, Game Show Network, Lifetime Movie Channel, Soap Net and more. Also, there are more PPV and sports channels to choose from, too.
When I signed up and had thngs installed, I sent away for a free Portable DVD player and received it this last week. Also, for signing up, I received a $100 credit on my bill. This will basically take $10.00 off for 10 months. With the credit, 2 receivers, the lowest price package, equipment protection and taxes, my bill is $45.00 a month. I know my old roommate pays almost $55 a month for the dish and constatly has had problems with it. He has had to move it 3 times, just in the 10 months that he has had it. He is waiting until his year agreement is up and switching to DirecTV.
