Is there a way to have satellite TV (dish network or direct TV) without the company having to install the?

Question:
satellite on the roof or the outside of the building? See I live in a multi-unit apartment building and they allow us cable tv, but they won't allow satellite dishes to be attached to the building. An no we don't have outdoor wooden back porches. I am in the Chicago area!

Answer:
Well if you do get a dish system please have written permission from the landlord outlining where they can put it. You can, in theory, place the dish in the home if the window faces the correct way. Go to www.fcc.gov to get the exact wording about where you can put it. I work for a satellite company and honesty I would not advise putting a dish in the apartment. Chances are you wont be able to get a line of sight anyway.
unles u have a window facing south u could use a stand . when u wacth tv u could open the window . when u down take it down
you will more than likely not be able to get a line of sight from the dish to the sky, but i have filled a flower pot with cement with a pole sticking out and placed that on a front or back porch, or mount the dish to a cement paver(atleast 18"X18") and place it on a roof, this way you are not permanetly fastened to a building,(some apts, condos do that here in florida), these work -but from in your apt i woudl not think so
if your apartment faces east or north, your out of luck, the dish would have to be pointed across the building, you need a clear line of sight to the southwest.Make sure you get all the landlord restricitons first.I had this problem this week during an install. The customer had to have $100 deposit, and the same situation as you with the non permanent mounting. As well they wanted the customer to carry 100,000 worth of renters insurance. If you do not have a porch, fire escape or some type of landing outside your apartment your probably out of luck as well. There are several ways to get around the mounting. One is a tripod, another is what is call a non-penetrating roof mount, which is basically a steel frame that the dish mounts to with a weight on it.(we have used these for patio installs)a 5 gallon bucket can also be used with cement in it.Contact dish after you get your restrictions and explain to the your requirements. The usually will include this info in the installer notes and they will bring the appropriate equipment,
