I'm getting a HDTV and I was wondering if freeview is in better definition than standard tv?

Question:
I'm thinking of getting a HDTV and I was wondering if freeview channels or even terestrial is in better definition than a standard tv, or if you need to get sky HD to get any better definition.

Answer:
i have hdtv with freeview and i cant get anything hi def from freeview the only progs i get are on cable and they aint that good bbc and itv have both got dedicated hi def cannels but they only show the same thing over and over the quality is amazing though you get the odd film
Yeah! Whatever
We got out TV before the HD skybox. I personally think there wasn't a huge jump from HD TV to Skybox with HDTV. But the jump from normal TV to HD is very noticeable. Don't rush out o get the HD channels just yet. there isn't a lot out there and it's not worth the money just yet, give it a few months more :)
The simple answer is no. HD television doesn't depend on the television set but the signal that's being broadcast to it. That said if you haven't got a HD ready television you won't be able to see HD signals either. Very few broadcasters are broadcasting in HD at the moment and none on Freeview as far as I know. I've never even seen a Freeview box capable of receiving HD signals. HD is broadcast on either 740 or 1080 scanning lines, normal on 540. All you'll get from Freeview is the usual 540.
HD ready means it can display HD pictures, though not necessarily in 1080 lines, IF the right signal and equipment comes into it. When they do start broadcasting HD, you'll need a box to pick it up.
Sky has a few HD channels now, but you need a new box and subscription, plus either a new LNB on your dish or an integrated dish. It's expensive.

Hope that's useful. Go to Comet and ask about HD before you buy it. You might be disappointed.
