Why is my HDTV not as clear as I expected?

Question:
I bought it 2-3yrs. ago and I just bought the hdtv box w/ the basica channels in HD. I'm not too impressed with the clarity, however. Do you think it's because I have an older model? I also bought dvi cables, but it looks the same as the component cables I was using.

Answer:
first of all, yes, there are three kinds of dvi cables, check for the letter at the end,ie dvi-d,dvi-i,etc. second, when you use compnt, are you on the component input?or on a lower video grade input.also, the other person was correct, you might have to switch from ana to dig on your cable/sat box.
The modle may have somthing to do wiht it, but most likely its that the cables aren't in the right spots or hte wrong order. I have had the same problem. The worst case senario is that it ain't HD tv Channels.
cause its a scam
It could be that you were expecting too much ??

Sorry it could be everything from the above, to cables, to the HDTV reciver to the company you are using.
The cable connections may be wrong. An HDTV typically has several possible connection methods, and only some of these are suitable for HD. Check the manuals on both the TV and the box, and verify that the connection means is suitable. Also, experiment a bit: many channels broadcast both conventional and HDTV signals. Switch back and forth, and see what happens. If you can do so without having to change the TV's aspect ratio, the signal is probably either not HD or the connection is wrong.
Probably your model, or it could be that your not receiving HD signals over the cable.

Even today there are HDTVs that I have noticed are not of great quality: Westinghouse, for instance, seem to have poor quality relative to better known brands (ie: Sharp).

I'd say wait a couple of years for the prices of 1080p sets to drop, then pick one up.
component cables are sending a digital signal so is your dvi cable so there shouldnt be to much of a change are you watching hd channels? do you have your recever set to 720p or 1080i on it there are alot of reasons to check out you older model isnt as fast as newer ones check to see if there are firmware updates for your model
Are you sure it's HD and not ED(Enhanced Definition). Make sure the specs say that it suports 1080i/1080p. Some of the older models have less than 1000:1 Contrast Ratio, even though its an HD. The new standards are around 3000:1 and up for LCD TVs and 10000:1 for Plasma TVs. Also, many of the newer models are using HDMI instead of DVI. That may be another factor. I hope this helps.
