Does getting HD setup for a new plasma tv help with other channels or only HD ones?

I recently bought a new plasma and am a little disappointed in the picture quality for how much I spent. I'm a caveman when it comes to this stuff but everyone tells me that you need special cables like a monster cable and to get the HD setup. I'm just wondering if the other non-HD channels will still look poor.

Monster Cables are really great..FOR BREAKING THE RCA CONNECTORs ON THE TV!!

I don't care for the "Push hard.HARDER.you push like a girl!" Style of cable..there's no need to buy a $100 set of cables either..WHY?

Because a Mid-priced set of cables with Firm (not excessive pressure) Clamping will give you the Best operation, while the excessively high priced ones will not improve picture quality for you to see with your eyes..Why buy gold plating when silver and copper conductivity is sooooooo close that those cables would have to be a mile long before you would see a REAL difference.

Now, lets get back to your question...Since your TV is Hi Definition, ALL signals displayed on your TV will be 1080i (hi def)
Now the PROBLEM is.your old signals look crappy because they are being LINE DOUBLED...that 480i signal has to write ONE LINE of information TWICE to fill the 1080i screen.

That's like a magnifying glass on a picture unfortunately.you'll see every limitation of the OLD signal magnified... and unfortunately that old signal will never get better.even on a HDTV channel.it's because the RECORDING will never get improved...the original recording will still be 480i.

So, when you get the chance..GET Hi Definition TV channels !

Monster cables will help on all channels, but most vividly on the HD channels. Most people say that monster cables are a rip off. I sold TV's for Circuit City for 2 years, and trust me, they help a lot.
