Viewing digital cable from 9.5 feet away: 42" or 50" screen?

Question:
I'm buying a plasma TV. I measured last night and the viewing distance between eye-level on the couch and the distance the TV will come out from the wall is 9.5 feet. We will be getting digital cable with the HDTV cable box (but obviously not all channels will be HD). We mostly watch live TV but we do have Netflix and some game consoles as well, so DVDs/games will be in the mix. We also have a fairly low ceiling (finished basement room).

Given all this, am I better off with the 42" or 50" screen? I want the biggest usable screen for my space - I don't necessarily believe bigger is always better for this stuff. I've found conflicting information online, so hopefully you can help! I've already got the model picked out, the screen size is the last decision I need to make.

Answer:
Honestly go to best buy or CC and stand 9.5 feet away from the set you are interested in. Each set if different, some you might be able to tolerate from that distance and some you might not be.

And word of advice is you have a spouse or significant other take them with you. You don't want to bring it home and them to complain.

hope this helps...
