HDTV Configuration?

Question: I have basic Bright House Cable, no premium channels. Do I need to buy a fully integrated HDTV or just an HDTV Monitor, using Bright House's feed.? I realize I may want to upgrade to Digital or HDTV Service later. Those channels that have selelcted HD programing today, will my reception, picture clarity etc improve with an HDTV or EDTV monitor?
