Does hdtv hd tuner mean i can watch free HD Local channel?
Question:
Answer:
Some TVs are HD monitors only which means you need an external HD tuner from satellite, cable co. or off air(local antenna) tuner. Other sets have the off air(local antenna) tuner built in. If you have this then you can hook directly to your TV with a rooftop antenna or if you live in an area extremely close to the signal source maybe a set top antenna. rooftop is a better bet. Then you can receive digital and HD locals free. Digital and HD use the UHF band so that is the type of antenna you would need. Uhf antennas have many different designs but the most commen you see is the arrow shaped <++++ And yes digital HD signals have to be available in your market, but they are available in most major markets. So I think LA is probobly good. There are more than likley web sites that give info as to which markets are active. Good Luck.
Yes but only if you have a hd tv
man i asked the same thing if the area u live in doesn't
povide it then no
You need to make sure if it has OTA (Over The Air) Tuner.
If it does, then you need to connect an indoor or an external antenna to the OTA tuner input of your HDTV tuner box.
If you don't have OTA tuner, you must subscribe to the local channels for an additional fee.
If using external antenna, your antenna must point to the direction based on your ZIP code.
Good luck
If you are saying your HDTV has a built in tuner, then the short answer is yes, if you attach an external antenna. Depending upon your tuner NTSC or ATSC, your tuner will work for a minimum of 1 year, That is in 2008 all local broadcast station will turn off thier NTSC (analog) transmitters and only transmit over ATSC (Digital). Currently they should be symocasting.
