Now... Im wondering how I get local channels with this tv. Do I just need an antennae?
Also, I bought the ps3 and when I let it automatically select the highest picture quality for the hd, it selects 720p instead of 1080i... Is the 720p better?

Depending on your distance from the local broadcast towers you may need an exterior UHF antennae. I have included links to a website that will assist you in determining which antennae type you’ll need and another website with a photo of the most common exterior HDTV / UHF antennae.
The new Sony PS3 will only output the High Definition resolution 720p. This is a problem for older High Definition sets that accept only 1080i and Sony claims a fix is in the works, but no timetable given on availability.
This should not be is a problem for your new Hitachi HDTV.
I doubt anyone can see the difference between the 720p or 1080i formats.
The Xbox 360 outputs both 720p and 1080i, Sony should have included both.

Local HD channels simply require rabbit ears or such. I use Antenna For Cable and Antenna B for HDTV. Just switch antenna inputs with the remote.
1080 has more lines than 720, so no, 720 is not higher resolution. It "might" be better for faster moving images though, as the picture is progressive and not interlaced.
