I don't have digital cable. Can I connect my vcr to the tv and then an antenna to that to pick up HD channels?

to get HD you will need a HD set top box
You need something that is able to receive HD signals. Depending where you are this may be possible with an antenna. You will also need a HD capable tuner. Check these sites for helpfull links.
