Question:
He has an entertainment center that held a 1994 32" TV. The TV is gone now and I would like to replace it with one of the newer models as a gift..Years ago, televisions were measured from upper left corner to lower right corner. But now I've looked at other newer models and sizes; HD, widescreen, LCD, Plasma, DLP, Rear Projection, Flat Panel...And it seems that measurement standard no longer applies to these newer models. So I measured the space in the entertainment unit and it is: 36" wide x 30" high. This TV will be in a family room. Viewing is available at every seating area, but you will be at least 12 feet away when you are watching the screen. Can someone help me wade through this sea of technovision and help me to get him a great Man Toy (with a budget of $1200) before the Superbowl crowd moves to the Bar across the street. He also is HD ready and his viewing pleasure is via Satellite. All 359 channels at his disposal. HELP!
Answer:
You can get a 37 inch LCD flat panel HDTV in that kind of budget and space. You can go even bigger for a Sony 42" LCD Projection HDTV in the same budget if the viewing distance is around 6 - 8 feet away from the screen.Dont forget to buy good quality cables.
If the user is a sports fan, then flat panel LCD's are not recommended at all, being having slower picture processing speeds and you might see considerable drag in the picture. If want to remain within the budget, the next best choice for you is to buy a no name brand 42 HD plasma
