BBC HD is not a subscription channel, but is carried on digital cable and satellite only, as freeview does not have the required bandwidth at present.
There is some truth in all the answers so far, apart from the reply about HD being subscription only - it isn't.
There is a Freeview HD trial going, I believe, in the London area from the Crystal Palace transmitter, but the system used for the transmission cannot be received by a standard Freeview equipped TV.
At the moment, if you want to get HD pictures, the only way is via the free to air BBC trial on satellite - and, of course, for most people that means subscribing to SKY.
There are alternatives - you can get a fta satellite reciever which will get the BBC pictures quite well from the satellite, but you will have to buy one.
you say your tv is hd ready, if it does have a hd tuner inside then you will be able to receive hd programs. if your tv is not fitted with a hd tuner but has the hdmi socket to accept the hd signal then no you wont be able to view a program in hd.
