Can I use Samsung SIR-TS360 without DirecTV service?

Question:
I just bought a Samsung SIR-TS360 DirecTV HD receiver to use to get "over the air" (OTR) HD broadcasts of local stations. It says it will work as a tuner for OTR signals. I currently do not have DirecTV service as I do not want the DirecTV channels, just the OTR stations. Will this work without DirecTV service? Has anyone done this before? Please include instructions if possible.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
I've not used this particular satellite/off-the-air tuner but use one from Zenith, and I receive OTA signals without satellite service. You will need an antenna and one on your roof will work best. Simply connect the antenna to the antenna input on your Samsung receiver, then step it though the initial channel receive setup in the receiver's menu.

OTA HD is the most amazing secret about HDTV... everyone thinks you have to pay for it when it is actually free. I've been watching OTA HD at home for nearly three years now.
