HDTV Help?!?!?

Question:
My husband and I have a 57'' Sony Big Screen TV with HD. I'm not sure if it's HDTV ready or HDTV compatible or whatever. We also have COMCAST CABLE. So my question is, are we seeing our channels in HD or do we need to buy some sort of cord or something to be seeing it? He thinks that we need to buy a cord and I think that if the channel says it's being broadcast in HD, then we are seeing it in HD. So can someone explain how this works to us? Thanks so much!

Answer:
dont listen to the other guy. you need to find out if your comcast cable subscription includes hd channels or if you have the hd cable box. the cable box is just like any other cable box but it decodes the hd signals from your cable company and sends them in hd to your tv. also how is your cable box connected to your tv. , i am betting you just have the basic cable stations and not any hd ones. the hd requires a hd box and hd cables and hook up. you would probably know if you have that, its usually a more expensive option when buy ing your subscription. you usually have to pay more dor the box and they can usually hook it up for you. also just cause some shows say brodcast in hd doesnt mean they are in hd. only specific channels are in hd. they are the hd channels and you have to be watching a hd channel to see anything in hd. and you would definetly know that you are watching it in hd or not there is a big difference.

i hope i helped good luck
you need to buy an antena not a regular one but an hdtv antenna bout $50-60 depends
vjjohn has you covered, I might add that some TVs that have a HD tuner built in will allow you to attach the comcast coaxial cable to the TV and will process the signal, you may not be able to use the TV guide feature but the trade off may be that you will get some premium channels you weren't getting before.

The cable company controls a great deal of your programming with the box, and in some areas the signal to the box has everything and the box adjusts the signal to match what you have subscribed to.
