Can I use an old analogue cable box and an HD box together.?

Question:

I have 2 old analogue cable boxes, one in each bedroom, with cable service from Time-Warner. I bought a new HDTV for one of the rooms. Time-Warner said to bring in the cabel box and they would exchange it for a digital box and then upgrade my service to a digital signal. When I got there they said. " oh, you have to change both boxes because when we upgrade your signal to digital, the old T.V. in the other room won't work unless you change that box too". Since the old TV isn't HD and works perfrctly well as it is, I really do not want to start fiddling with the set-up because it has a VCR and DVD and Play Station hooked up etc and if possible I would just rather leave it be. I also have a suspicion that my cable company just wants to force me to get 2 boxes. Does anyone know if they are lying to me when they say my second TV won't get reception if they send me a digital signal unless I also change that box. If I leave it alone and just change the other box, won't I still get the same analogue channels I get now on the 2nd box? Thanks.

You should be able to use the analog box with your cable, it just won't give you the digital or HD channels. I use Time Warner too and have 3 analog tuners and a digital tuner. Watching the Super Bowl with my Analog tuner right now.

Worst case, just switch one box and if the other box doesn't work, then exchange that one too.

Sounds like you are being misinformed. I work for a cable company in Canada, and we broadcast both analog and digital signals (since analog is not required to be deactivated until 2009) so you can use both types of equipment in the same household.
