Why are quality cables so important?

Question:
Consider HD TV from the cable company. The signal for 100's of TV channels travel for miles through 15yr old crappy coax cables into your house and into the cable box. Then we are supposed to believe that we need a $50 gold plated HDMI cable to send one channel the last 3 feet to the TV. Doubtful. I think there is a conspiracy.
There is a conspiracy.

DO NOT BUY EXPENSIVE DIGITAL CABLES!!

A digital signal is either received or not. The signal cannot degrade, unless it won't be received.

For hdmi and dvi use monoprice.com

I have used them several times and they have quality stuff and fast shipping.
This technology only works if the infrastructure is fairly new, like in my case. Rogers cable put all new wiring for internet, HD/Digital cable & their new Home Phone service. So, I bought a DVI to HDMI Monster cable from Ebay for $56 new, delivered in 2 business days. It's really great. The component cables were not as good, but, all the stuff the signal comes in on is new. The only other way that using one of those cables would pay is if you had Satellite HD Dish. They are fantastic. Better than cable. I will get one some day.
