DirecTV will need more satellites to offer additional High Definition programming. DirecTV plans to use the same platform to launch satellites that witnessed last month's explosion of a rocket carrying a Dutch satellite on Boeing's Sea Launch floating platform in the Pacific Ocean.
DirecTV may delay the launch until 2008.
Cable TV is suing DirecTV over it’s “Up to 150” HD channels in the near future advertisement - doesn’t seem fair because the delay is not their fault.
If you want more High Definition programming now - you will need to look elsewhere.
just called the other day and they said by september they will have at least 70 channels.some might be "pay per view" some will be premimum..but most will be available in a standard package
I worked at Directv until recently. Directv is no where near achieving the 150 channel mark anytime in the near future. As a matter of fact, of the channels Directv offers, most are not even broadcasting in HD yet. I'm not sure what legal fine print they are using to make their claim, but it is just that, fine print that is not really achievable.
Alot of their marketing involves the general populations lack of understanding the difference between digital and HD. The law is forcing broadcasters to go to digital, not HD. Directv, due to its nature of being a satellite broadcaster, is 100% digital and always has been. What people want is HD programming. Directv is trying to blur the line in the consumers mind.
