How much bandwidth does an HD channel use?

Question:
In particular, if I have 60 HD channels at home, how much bandwidth does my cable company or wireline service provider need to offer?

Answer:
The common rule of thumb is that HD video/audio requires 6 times the bandwidth of SD television. This is required because not only is the picture bigger and has more lines of resolution, but there are also elevated audio requirements.
