How do I get rid of the black left/right border with HDMI 480p?

Question: I am using a HDMI connection with a Bright HOuse HD DVR. How do I get rid of the black border on the left and right on my HDtv (1080p) when watching channels that are broadcast in 480p it is annoying

Answer:
Use aspect ratio and try the stretch mode. This is while you watch NON HD channels then go back to HD when you need to.
