Component Video Not Showing Anything On TV?
Question:
So the TV has RGB (PrPbY) component ports. I tried connecting my HD cable box to it via the provided component cable, but the video didn't show, all I heard was audio from the separate audio cable I connected. The screen was just black with some white static lines on it. I checked that everything was connected fine, I was on the correct video input channel, etc. I'm not sure why the video didn't show up though.
Could it be because the cable box was giving off an HDTV signal and my TV wasn't HDTV? But if that was the case shouldn't video still show, it just wouldn't be HD quality.
The TV says it supports up to a max of 480i, so could it be that the cable box is giving off progressive signals instead of interlaced? I dunno I'm just guessing.
Also I tried connecting my DVD player to the TV using the component cable and I had the same issue.
You said you were trying to hook up your iO Digital Box , then you said you tried hooking your HD cable box to it. I'm going to assume you meant Digital Box. When you have a cable box, the in-coming coax goes into the (cable in) on the cable box, then out to the TV. If it is an HD cable box, get rid of it and get the digital one. That's what you need for a non HD TV. The only thing you need the component cables for is to go from the DVD to the TV . Make sure the Y cable is fastened to the same place on each end, and the same with the other two. With the cable box, your TV needs to be set on channel 3 and left there, and change the channels with the remote that came with the cable box. In the book that came with the cable box, there should be numbers to program your TV & DVD into the remote that goes with the cable box. Then you will be able to change channels, volume etc with that one remote. Any picture settings, or audio settings are changed with the TV remote, by accessing the main on-screen menu.
