I'm thinking about getting Direct TV b/c of all the HD channels, so do i need a land phone line to get it?

Question:
I currently use my cell phone for my home phone. If i need a land line is there other options like using the internet instead.

Answer:
I have never had a problem when i had DirecTV with out it being connected to the phone line.. they claim that it can affect your service.. one of the reasons they want your box connected to the phone line is so the box can call home any of the PPV events that you ordered... but, you can order about 4 PPV events before the card is full, and needs to call in to clear the PPV, untill it is able to call these PPV in it will not appear on your bill.. the other reason they want your box connected to a phone line is so that they can verify that multiple boxes are located at the same physical address, for example, you could technicllay have a second box connected in 2 diffrent citys, or states saving on rental costs, an extra box on an account is cheaper then a whole new account, but this violates there service agreement. More and more people are going cell phone only, or switching there land lines to VoIP, and do not have the skill to wire the VoIP into there existing phone wiring, so they may have flexibility with you not having a phone line, especiallay if you are only getting one box..
You'll need a cable box and they'll provide you a dish.
Yes you need a land line. That is how they control the subscription.
