Which is better Direct TV or Dish Network?

Question:
We've had it with the continued frustrations of dealing with the only cable company in our area. They don't repair lines when they are damaged (our's has been broken for 8 yrs now and the only answer I ever get is "I don't know. Lemme check on that.") and now that we have purchased an HD TV only to find out that HD service in our area is not available and Charter Communications has no plans of making it available, we are seriously looking into satellite service. Which service is better? I have heard horror stories about both from people here in town, but since they are the same people that don't pay bills on time and have their service shut off I don't want to go on their opinions.

Answer:
My husband is an installer for DISH. I have been happy with our sevice so far. We have DISH bundled with our Windstream phone and internet service. The only downside is that when the weather is bad , severe rain storms, we loose reception. DISH also offers HD TV channels. We don't have them b/c we don't have a HD TV. I had Direct several years ago and lost reception much more often then we do with Dish. Even if he didn't work for them I would pick DISH over Direct.
In response to 'maria' - when I switched to dish from cable the cable co charged me $250 for already returned equipment so that goes both ways there!
well it depends
on what teir you buy and if you want hd
Trust me- just stick to cable dish SUCKS!
Get DirecTV if you are having problems with cable. It is almost as good as the best of cable providers.
i had similiar problems with cable. i told the to get lost and i got direct t.v. and i ******* love it. no more cable for me!
DISH NETWORK SUCKS...DO NOT SIGHN UP WITH THEM..I WAS A CUSTOMER AND WHEN I DECIDED TO CHANGE TO CABLE...THEY DECIDED TO CHARGE ME 300.00$ FOR EQUIPMENT I HAD ALREADY RETURNED.
First you need to see if they are even available in your area. Then you need to see if you will be able to mount a dish in the location you need in order to pick up a signal. For the most part they are the same as far as for viewing. But it does vary form city to city and state to state.

I have personally had both. Dish Network seems to be a bit cheaper in my area and I have not had any problems with them at all. Their customer service is great and so is their billing dept.

Direct TV on the other hand for me was a nightmare with customer service and billing. I never got my bills and if I did it was after I had already made my online payment. They cut my service twice because the online payment was not posted properly to my account and then they tried to say it was better for me just to mail my payment in so avoid this is the future. (Sorry but I pay my bills on time, if not early and everything is paid automatically out of my checking! They are there to service me and not the other way around! It is not my fault their system sucks!)

Plus, the installers made a mistake and caused a leak in my roof!! That was fun to deal with. It took Direct TV almost 6mo to fix it!

That's my story.hope it helps!
Hi,

I'd say clearly Dish cause:

- cheaper
- more channels and more variety
- awesome picture quality

You might check out http://www.dishnetworkbargains.net... - They currently run some promo with free Dish and DVR you might take advantage of. If you have any questions just call 'em up, they are professional and helpful.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes
Mike
