It depends on where you live.
Depends what your local stations have for HD. Around here there's only three. Channel 7 actually has a 7.1 and 7.2 for their two HD air channels, and they're different programs.
If you live out in the sticks, don't bother. But if you live in a highlly residential area, i.e.: a big city, you'll be fine.
You can get as many HD channels as SD channels(if they also broadcast in HD).
You can get HD broadcasts with any pair of 'rabbit ears'.
