HD-TVs: If it's not an HD channel with HD programming, then it has bad picture?
Question:
Answer:
The picture looks bad because it has a different resolution than HD does. Basically you are taking a small TV broadcast and stretching it to fit your TV. Usually you can select between wide, normal, zoom, zoom wide, and other modes which can make the picture look slightly better. But for the most part standard def channels don't look good on HDTV because they are just poor quality broadcasts.
See once you look at a great picture, you cant go back. Once everyting goes digital in 2009 Feb, we wont have that problem.
Its made for HD/future but it will give a little leway for backwards compat.
It does not look unwatchable. For best SD Programming, I'd get a Plasma, or any Sony for that matter. Sony has a DRC Palette that adjusts SD programming's smoothness and detail, but it's hard work making it perfect. For a less accurate but easier workaround for SD, get a Plasma. On my Sony Grand Wega (Model # KDF-E42A10), the SD picture is comparable to my old 36" CRT Tube. The reason it looks not that great is because it is being UP-Converted, so pixels are added, even though they aren't there. On 1080p TV's, it's worse.
