I need more information about HD TVs?
Question:
Answer:
The tuner that is IN the TV can get your LOCAL stations IN HD...
It will get your LOW DEF Analog Cable stations.
IF IT HAS the CABLE CARD SLOT.don't use it...it's been a NIGHTMARE for all Cable companys and Manufacturers to make it work reliably..
So, you'll WANT to rent the box and get the HD PACKAGE from your Cable or Satellite company.
But for now, you can hook up a Local outdoor antenna for your LOCAL HD signals and enjoy HD..
A tabletop antenna isn't the best choice, but a Radio Shack amp on a tabletop antenna helped me.
The embedded HD tuner is the ATSC tuner (if you are in North America) to receive terrestrial TV signals. In this case you need an antenna (you can buy at any TV shops) to receive the signals. The terrestrial TV signals (HD or SD) are free.
If you want to watch HD channels from cable, the signals from cable are encrypted (scrambled). Each service provider has his own encryption algorithm. Some HDTV have the OpenCable slot to de-encrypt cable signals. Please check your TV, if your TV has this slot, you also need to inquire the local service providers if their signals support OpenCable standard. If support, you subsribe the service and get a OpenCable card (same as the PCMCIA card) and then your TV can receive the TV channels from the cable. If not support, you subscribe the service and get a set-top box to de-encrypt signals, then feed into your TV via HDMI/DVI or component ports.
