I have an HDTV monitor but....?

Question:
when theres a channel like ABC HD am i watchig it on HD?

Answer:
No. You have to subscribe to the HDTV service from your cable provider. There are separate channels for HD, so you can watch regular ABC on channel 7 or HD ABC on Channel 997 (or whatever).
it depends on what show you have to remember..
I have no idea what you are asking, if you are watching the normal channel for ABC, it is not HD
If you have a HD Monitor and you are seeing the ABC HD, then you are watching it on HD. One more thing you can make sure is that when you press the info button, it should tell you the resolution. And if it is 1080i, then its coming in HD.
Another way to tell is that sometimes the commercials(ads) will be cropped meaning they were not recorded in HD but the regular broadcast will not be. And one obvious reason will be that the picture will be sharp as you are seeing live.
As long as you're using an ATSC tuner to feed your monitor, you are.
If the reception is crystal clear and widescreen, then yes. If not, then no.

You can receive HD through broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, etc...) with an HD antenna, or you can receive it through HD service with your digital cable provider. If you choose the later, you will need either a HD descrambler box or a CableCARD that are provided by your cable company.
