I have a HD DLP TV (1080i) but when I turn on my tv it always says 480i?

Question:
How come it does not seem to reflect hd quality? I have a hd receiver and I pay the extra money for HD channels but my tv does not seem to provide the quality it should. I have never seen it say 1080i only 480i.
It sounds like you need to configure the box that your hd channels are coming through. there should be a menu that will ask what your highest setting is and that will be 720p or 1080i. Most regular channels will broadcast in 480i. but if you watch a show that says hd somewhere on the screen its most likely 1080i uless its sports wich will be 720p. you wont be able to set the tv for any certain signal type because all it does is read the incoming signal so its not the tv its the source ie cable box ,dvd, or game system
You MUST be using The HD RECIEVER's CHANNEL 3 RF CABLE connection, because that connector is NOT HD....

You MUST USE the >>Component or HDMI<< Video input or even the older style DVI for HD SIGNALS from the HD RECIEVER..

Try that first...
Then after usings component or HDMI make sure the Reciever is selected to 1080.

If I remember right the DirectTV boxes have a button on the outside to select what resolution to output in.
