Can I use my Sky Digibox for Freeview channels once I have cancelled the subscription?

Question:
I am thinking of cancelling my crippling Sky subscriptions, but have an HD TV with Freeview. However, the reception is rotten where I live and I can only get a dozen channels, not including BBC or ITV! I am wondering if I can use the Sky box and dish to view the normally "free" channels once the subscription has been cancelled. Any advice would be greatly received.

Answer:
You will get the free-to-air satellite channels - do a search for 'freesat from sky'. The free-to-air digital terrestrial (aka Freeview) channels will not be received by your dish.

I am surprised if you cannot get BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC News 24 - they are supposed to have the broadest coverage of the UK.
Yes, I still get loads of channels including freeview.
yes you can mate
Yes, very much so. I do it at the moment. Just make sure you leave the viewing card in and it will pick up anything free.

Interestingly though, you won't get E4 for free through Sky, you only get that for free using a freeview box (quite annoying if, like me, you like Friends and Scrubs).
you can and there are a few more chanels as well.
yep,you get most of the free channels
