Have HD-ready TV, what else is needed to rec local channels in HD without paying Time Warner Cable more $?
Question:
Answer:
Unless your local TV is shot in HD you're not going to get it. They must provide their broadcasts in HD, things must be recorded in HD, and that's why not all the channels are in HD. TV commercials aren't in HD, you know. Most of them are shot in old crappy standard NTSC, not HD. No antenna is going to make your local TV shows to look like HD, they have to record them in HD and that's pretty costly for mom & pop broadcasters.
If I understand your question then you have a HD ready TV which in itself means it (the TV) does NOT have a tuner and you are using a cable box as your tuner and this box is not HD. If this is correct then what someone has suggested is you purchase an antenna, like a set of rabbit ears or an outside antenna and connect this to your cable box if the box has a connection for an outside antenna in addition to its own cable input. This being the case you MIGHT get a signal transferred from the antenna to the cable box to the TV. but I seriously doubt it will be HD. The short answer is "I don't think you can" the very description that the TV is HD-ready means if will provide you with a HD picture IF YOU provide it with a HD signal which you are not doing by adding an antenna and a NON-HD receiver. Sorry.
To answer your question, you need a HD receiver of some type, cable box, Sat. dish and receiver, or one of the HD tuners that are sold as a stand alone receiver for your tv. which uses cable or an outside antenna or rabbit ears.
