Hdtv antenna. please help me?
Question:
Answer:
Two points regarding hdtv and antennaes.
1. You may actually get a better signal from the air, as opposed to a cable signal, since most cable operators will compress the hd signal.
2. Save yourself a few bucks, and don't get suckered by the expensive "hdtv antennas". A basic good quality antenna will work fine, if not better. An outdoor, rotating one will give you the best options, but even an indoor antenna, will work if you live near the TV stations tower.
Here's a link that addresses this issue:
From an HDTV antenna, I am picking up seven different true HDTV stations (14 total) since they all broadcast two stations for free on my HDTV set.
It will depend on your physical location in relation to the broadcasters towers. Digital HD signals, unlike old on air signals degrade almost instantly beyond a certain distance from the source. It doesn't "fuzz up". If you are in or near a major city, an HD Antenna will give you your locals FOR FREE! Just hook it up!
Good Luck!
Call your cable operator and downgrade to analog basic or extended basic. Return the cable box. You don 't need. If your TV turner supports QAM, it should be able to receive the clear local HD channels without problem. You need to hook up your TV tuner input to the cable outlet and run the channel scan.
This is what I did with my Sharp HDTV and it works. Quality is fantastic and I don 't have to pay those greedy bastards for local HD channels. Initially I even got ESPN HD. Don 't worry about analog being turned off for Cable in 2009. FCC and these guys have a conspiracy, there is no mandatory analog shut off for cable. Enjoy.
