Can i record HD channels from tivo? If not what other company should i look for?
Question:
Answer:
If you want to stick with a Tivo unit, your only option right now is the DirectTV HR10-250 unit. This is actually a really cool unit because you can record 2 HD feeds at the same time. Local HD channels can be received via satelite if you get a waiver from your local network, or you can plug in your antenna... yes, you can record DTV or HD channels from the antenna source as well. One thing to note about this unit, is that it will soon be replaced by a non-Tivo unit in order to receive the newer MPEG-4 encoded channels. The DirecTV unit uses an older Tivo software which makes it a bit sluggish to respond.
Dish Network has their own proprietary HD recorder, but they may be switching to Tivo because of a patent dispute.
Cable companies rent out a unit made by Motorolla (not Tivo) that can also record HD programming.
Sony makes an HD recorder that only works with digital cable.
Sometime (hopefully in a couple of months) Tivo will release it's Series 3 unit that will have multiple HD tuners.
You can record it, but it wont record in HD. You need a DVR that can record in HD. I do not know if Tivo makes one. I record HD shows on my DVR-HD box from my cable company. Direct-TV and Dishnetwork also have them. The satellite companies charge a lot ($300). The cable company leases it to me for $10 a month.
