How can a channel be HD if its in cable? Like ABC HD or FoxHD?

Question:
For example in HDbeat.com I saw that some of the shows were being played in 720p on ABC how can that be when a TV with cable can only show 480i?

Answer:
HD stands for hight deffinition, as you may or may not know. So it has nothing to do with being cable or not, it's just that they put more effort into the picture. What you want to watch in HD though, is Discovery not ABC or Fox. Man that's an awesome picture. Especially when they're showing things like the grand canyon.
The hd is sent through a different signal. Thats why you need a hd box to get it. Fox hd is not on channel 5, its channel 705 and so on with the different stations in hd.
