OK, kids. Somebody's got to jump in and moderate again...
Note to Atheists: Yes, this is a forum for Believers.
Note to Christians: It's not labeled for any particular religion, including yours.
Atheists should know that many Evangelical Christians have held the belief that Atheists are Believers, too - that they simply believe against God.
If that is true, Christians, Atheists should be just as much at home here as you are... but they're not - and neither is anybody else, if you'll notice.
Both sides should understand that there is a very good reason why Christians are perceived as aggressive, but I'll get to that in a moment...
Last night I saw a PBS special on the "Abrahamic Faiths," which was a documentary following the lives of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. It tried to show the common ground between these warring faiths, ended by admitting there were irreconcilable differences, and allowed members of each faith to summarize what they would like the others to remember about them, first and foremost.
Muslims: "We're not all terrorists. we're not all carrying bombs."
Jews: "We don't own all the banks and Hollywood."
Christians: "We're not trying to convert all of you."
Christians, admit it: that last point was disingenuous.
I happen to know, having been both an Atheist and a born again Christian, that the faith is enjoined - even required - to proselytize others, particularly by Evangelical sects.
The reason for this is simple: Jesus (or at least those who wrote his words) commanded his followers to "go into all the world and preach the gospel." This statement was not qualified by screening out converts for strong belief in other faiths, or by having any faith at all. It was a blanket order and Christians follow it to this day.
Atheists: It's a little like an MLM program where your survival depends on your "downlines." Jesus also said that "he who is ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of him also." It's tough to back out of this requirement and hold your head up in church if you can't bring home the bacon, that is, at least a stray convert every now and then.
Let's just keep it civil. Remember CS Lewis, who also once inhabited both camps, but with world class scholarship palatable to both.
In fairness to both sides, I applaud you all for engaging one another in dialog, even debate or outright confrontation. At least it's a start. There might even be a few converts one way or another, but at least "we" will have reached an understanding, after all thoughts are expressed and pondered.

It is what they do. Christianity encourages barbarism. If you want proof, just look at the Crusades.
So what do you think will happen to you after you die? Also what do you make of people who have been on their way to heaven when they were sent back because it wasn't their time. This happened to my girlfriend when she died twice but was brought back to life by CPR.
Because we have a right to be here in the Religion and Spirituality forum, because we are the majority of the population and sorry no matter where you go,we will be there. So I suggest you become more tolerent of other people and speaking of judgemental, you need some happy juice youngin'.

People could say the same about lots of religions on here. It is a space for them after all. If you don't like them don't read their questions or answer them. I same freedom that lets you say what you like lets me do the same too. Just out of interest how can you really tell if someone is,an atheist. Not all of us think Christians are bad people!

OK so you expect Christians to respect non believers, yet you can not respect them? I am one and i do not shove my beliefs down peoples throats. Everybody has a right to say and practice what they believe. If you don't like what they say, than just do not read their post. I do not judge people on what they believe or do not believe nor do i harass others.
I get annoyed with Christians and their pushy attitudes many times as well
but in this particular case, in this forum, which is called Religion and Spirituality, I don't think that they are invading the place
I think that in THIS forum they have as much right to be here as us non-Christian types

I'm sorry, but I've seen "invasions" by both Christians and Atheists. In fact the only group that I haven't seen do this are Pagans and even they sometimes join it the craziness around here. Sorry, every group is guilty. Not just Christians.
Come on christian religion is the only true one. Oh and all this stuff is not true. If your sick of christians then move to Asia or a place with little christian religion. I do not get the way of atheists, do they believe in science or something.If you hate the christians then read there bible you will start to like them and then maybe even become one.
I don't know. I guess it has something to do with the fact that they are just people with an opinion. Everyone else has a 'right' to an opinion, why not "Christians"? Atheists get to spew but not Agnostics or Christians. What about Jews and Mormons?
Just for the record, other faiths are respected, in my mind anyways. I can't make anyone change anything about themselves. But I can tell you that you can keep your ten points, baby.
Lets say you believed in something so strongly it was the most important thing in your life. Wouldn't you want to share it with everyone you loved, people you didn't know too?

People (Christians definitely included) need to show some tolerance.

This is the religious section, so Christians didn't invade it, it was meant for religions and the people in them, or anyone wanting to know more about them. You are contradicting yourself when you are complaining about Christians saying that their opinion is right, when you think your's is. You must remember that Christians try to save others out of love, not some reward, because Christians have everything needed for eternity.
Many are like the karaoke singer that is tone deaf. The worse they are the louder they sing and when the crowd doesn't respond to them the way they want, they feel put upon yet happy to be the martyr. Only their ideology makes them carry their mike and speaker and sing even where they aren't wanted and in their mind they sing it better than anyone else. I wish there was a gong or American Idol thumbs down just to get some of them to shut the hell up.
Perhaps "religion and spirituality" is not the best place for you, if the presence of people who are talking about their religion bothers you.

I've been a christian for many, many years and I will tell you that there are two types of people that gripe me also. One, being a so called christian that has all the answers when I know he don't and second, an atheist who thinks he isn't being respected and acts like he has all the answers and everybody else is a fool for not believing as he does. Sometimes I think that the two of you are really alot alike. Besides, this is the Religion section. And I don't care about your thumbs down or the ten points. You want respect,,,,give it.
well that's a very harsh statement and rude to call all christians that. im sorry if you have had a bad experience where someone tried to push you into our religion but where i grew up as a christian i was taught to respect customs and other religions. and if people question you why you dont believe in a god of anything. they're just curious. no ones judging you just trying to get culturized and there's nothing wrong with that. i hope that you dont think all christians are always like that.
