i met a taiwanese man online to teach me Mandarin chinese i found out he lived about 5 miles from my house and he would tutor me in mandarin in person free if i helped him lose his thick accent in return he sent me his pic and we talked everyday then i told him to meet me at the restaurant i work at he did and he was the same person as his pic had a really thick accent but seemed nice i told my dad about this i have been dying to learn mandarin for about a year he said he had to meet him etc and he is making it hard for us we cant meet at my house we cant go to his house i dont wanna meet in public i want to go to his house im 17 he is 25 and im much stronger then he is and im not a little kid some pedophile is going to molest so what can i do to make my dad see he is harmless plus the main reason i wanna go to his house is because im home alone 24/7 except when im at work and this will atleast give me somewhere to go and im not going to party or anything im going for school!Thanks

even if it might be difficult for you at first because obviously it would not be the ideal environment to learn a language I would agree with your father and suggest you meet in public, at least til you get to know him better...you never know what his intentions may be...if after sometime you see he is really serious about learning and teaching you and does not try to do anything funny, then you might consider meeting in a more private place
I have had a number of language partners for learning Mandarin, similar to the situation you describe. We have nearly met in a public or university library or study area and found a quiet study room or corner to work in. You may be able to do the same.
There are many reasons not to meet in the home of either one of you. I shows good sense, even though you think you could handle any situation that arose.
