Has anyone taken an online class for school before? What was it like?

Question:
Iam just starting my pre reqs for nursing at College of Dupage. I signed up for all my classes but there is this 9:30am class and there is no way I can get to it. I have to take public transportation to get out to COD in the morning for all of my classes. I have two options to get there either I take an early train around 8:30 am in the morning to get me to the class or I Take it online. The way I get out there I take a bus to the train station then get on the train to get to naperville then I get on a bus and all of this takes 1 1/2 hours commute time. What should I do either tae the early train at 6:30 am or take the class online. I have no car so I rely on public transportation to get me to school. If I took the next train it won't be until 8:30am and that will get me to the bus I need to get late. The college has a policy if you are late 3 times to a class then you are dismissed for the class. What is it like to take an online class?

Answer:
Well, you mention external factors such as just the physical effort that you must exert just to get to class. Not counting all of that, holding everything else equal, online classes tend to be more difficult. Many students lack the self-discipline that must exist to keep up with the class assignments. Also, the there is not the teacher/student interaction that often fosters learning in the classroom. Having said all of that, I do feel, however, that students who go through an online class often come out of it having learned more and remembering more than if they had been in the classroom. This is because they have have to "dig" for it more on their own. I say all of this from my perspective as a teacher.
Easy easy easy. Just make sure you log on frequently and participate in the online discussions. At least that's how it worked at my community college.

Online courses are MUCH easier.
easy...especially if you can take the tests online. some online make you go to a particular testing site...but the class i'm taking now..everything is online. plus for me!
Hi. I have taken and am taking an online course. For me, it is a wonderful experience. You are learning the material at your own pace, it's wonderful if you know how to manage your time, and if you don't understand something you can always contact the instructor.
If you are an independent, motivated learner you will do fine. I teach an online class and feel the students don't get quite as much from the online courses as the regular lecture/classroom courses. However, you can learn what you need to know through reading and doing the online exercises.
I took several online classes and I loved it.
you can just really do it, whenever you have time, and as it was said before.
participating really helps.
it's just like class... only you talk to your classmates on a discussionboard.
our teacher used to always read and help out, if we students couldn't solve the problem on our own.
for me it was also great to do it in my own environment... I could listen to music while learning, take a break whenever I wanted to.
I would really recommend online classes.
only thing is you have to motivate yourself to do it.
but... if your interested in the topic it's not that hard.
good luck
