Why are CRM software applications so expensive?

Question:

Answer:
First of all, they are usually massive. Not only does it include accounting software, but they also have to integrate with email software, word processing, spreadsheets, etc. And, the software vendor can't spread its cost over a million users, so those few that are using the software bear the brunt of the cost.

Where the CRM gets totally insane is when you hire the consultant to take the raw software and configure it for your business. On its own, CRM software is like Excel or Lotus 123 - it's a raw canvas that you must make work for you. When it's configured, it actually has your customers, your products, and integrates with your email and accounting systems.

Finally, Microsoft's CRM requires that you run your entire office with MS software. CRM requires Outlook, MS Office, and MS's accounting software, all of which run on new MS servers. If you running other products, you'll be ripping them out to install the MS stuff.
