I want to improve myself through online education and certifications in certain areas. Money is a problem.?

Question:
I am a college graduate with a degree that has nothing to do with my area's of employment over the last 30+ years. I am also a veteran who has no benefits due to the lapse of time. I am most interested in taking correspondence or online classes in speciffic areas that will include health, fitness, and wellness (I am a very good and experienced coach and personal trainer) as well as computer courses such as word, excel, and powerpoint. Finanncial Aid will be a must for me. Another question posed to me by a friend would be what financial aid options are available for convicted felons that have served their time and want to get on the right track to self sufficiency. She is a relative and will have access to my PC if it comes down to that. Thanks

Answer:
I would highly advise against an online school. Some are legitimate. most are not.. Univ. of Pheonix is currently being sued for unlawful practices relating to fees, etc.. I ALSO know they are keeping any excess aid for FUTURE classes..which they are not supposed to do. There is a program thru DHS if u have a disability from being a veteran that they will help pay for tuition and books.. Contact the VA, they have grants for people like u.. GL
You have two options youcan either return to school for a second bacelors or for a masters (you just might need to take a few extra classes). With either you will only qualify for federal loans unless the school offers other financial aid. You should be able to find some courses online, reseach schools that offer programs you are interested in and ask what percentage is offered online.

If your friend the reformed felon can be admitted to a university I see no reason she would not qualify for some financial aid.
Man, thats alot...

Well, begin by contacting a decent school you can further your education, like University of Phoenix, Devry, etc... Of course depening on what sorta goals you have. Then, apply for financial aid, any and all grants you can get any info on. Also, contact the VA. I understand that your GI Bill may have lapsed, which is ok. But still contact them anyways and see what options they may have for you. Also your state should have some sorta help for you given that you are a felon. Hey, you are trying to better yourself, so there has to be something for you. I wish there was more of an answer I could give you. But applying for student loans, might be your best bet.

Good luck bro...
