Occupational Therapy Degree - Please Help?

Question:
I currently hold a Bachelors degree in Advertising and I am planning on doing a career change into the field of Occupational Therapy. Unfortunately I live in Tampa and there are no colleges that offer the Masters program and I would have to commute 4 hours every other weekend for 2 years in order to earn my masters. My other option is to go to school as an Occupational Therapy Assistant locally. Does anyone work in the Occupational Therapy field that can help me decide what would be more advantageous, traveling for the 2 years or taking a lower degree and doing it locally. Thanks.

Answer:
Ugh. I just looked on the aota website. There are no programs close to Tampa. But, if you go to their website, link below, at the bottom of the page is a link to a .pdf file that lists programs that offer distance education. Some have very low residency requirements. Distance ed is not my first choice, but it can work. One of them is FIU in Miami, and Fla Gulf Coast U in Ft Meyers. Lots of state universities on that list, so you know it's legit.

I don't know if you're married to the idea of being an OT, but there's an orthotics and prosthetics program at St Pete College (I'm in St Pete). It's the only program of its kind in Florida, and there's a huge market for O & P.

Good luck!
