College basketball redshirts?
Question:
Answer:
"Redshirt" means you are sitting out the year. That may be why the person is not listed on the roster. Redshirtting was intended to allow injured players to keep their eligibility an extra year, but many coaches will ask freshmen to redshirt a year to get more physically mature for Division 1 basketball. This is much more common in football, since many basketball players now attend prep school for a year instead of going to colleg right away.
If the person is really on the team, though, he should be mentioned somewhere on the school's official sports webpage or on a bulletin board somewhere.
i think it should say they are a redshirt on the roster... so they should be on the roster. Redshirting is a player gettin an extra year of eligability by redshirting 1 year, which is playin only a small amount of season.
Redshirts are on the team, but can't play. They may not be on the roster. They are either redshirted because they are ineligible, injured when recruited or perhaps after, or they aren't meeting academic regulations. However, usually they will be practicing with the team and may have to attend the games.
