Car Loans for College Students?

I need a new car! Right now I will take a used car! Currently I have a 1995 Canada made Dodge Neon which is giving me problems. I would like to get a Chevy Cobalt or Mazada 3. The problem is as an college student with a credit score in the 630-650 range and a monthly income at best 1000-1300 range...financing is a problem. I dont know where to turn or what to do!! My dad has had recent credit problems although recently he has paid off a car and my mother is good credit and a great income but saids she is max out or has too much in her name. Is there anything I can do? Online Loan?? etc

Go to a good, reputable dealer, and they should be able to get you approved on that income level, if you work full time.

There are some first time buyer programs out there, and they look at job time, income, any other credit.

So, it may take some looking, a little cash down, and a realistic view of what cars you can afford, but you should be able to do something.

Please do not take out a car loan. You sound like you are strapped as it is. Do you want to have to quit school just to pay for a stupid car?

If you can even qualify for a loan, where are you going to get another $300/month? Do you have 20 extra hours a week to work? If so, great! If not, how are you going to pay for the car?

If it were me, I would start saving. If you truly have an extra $300/mo for a car payment, you will be able to save up $1800 in six months, or $3600 in a year. This, along with your Neon in trade, should get you a really good used car.

I have been in college, and I have had an income of $1000/mo. Please learn from my mistakes instead of your own. Please do not take out a car loan.
