What do you think of online college programs?

Question:
Some people say that these types of degrees aren't taken as seriously as a "real" college degree.

Answer:
Well I think any kind of education is good. You are still learning and you have to do homework. I say whatever works for you. Congratulations on higher education.
I think learning online is great. It lets people learn who might not have the opportunity to attend a class in a college.
considering that you can BUY degrees now, not a lot of credence is given to any of them, however, they do have a limited role in status symbolism.
i think online college programs are ok.

you can take your classes online while doing other things, and you can have your classes at your own pace.

you have to have some good internet connection, dsl or cable internet will do (they're faster than dialup) so you can collaborate with your instructor & co-students online (through video, chat, netmeeting, etc)

the downside of this is that if you don't really have that discipline, you might take the class for granted, or you might get too occupied on the other things you do. so it's ok if you have enough drive to pursue the online course.

also, it lacks the ordinary education's spontaneous environment, wherein you can ask your teacher and/or classmates some questions.

i also think online college programs are ok if you're going to study mostly theoretical subjects. because if you take degrees which involve practical applications or hands-on, it will be difficult for you to catch up, unless you spend extra time on the internet for more tutorials.
While education of any kind is good in itself, a degree from an online university (Capella, Phoenix, etc.) are not really taken seriously by employers.

I've placed a link below to an article that provides evidence of this.
I think many of them are great programs and can help many who don't have the time to attend a "real" university.
