As a business person, do you take an online degree seriously?

Question:
I am 26 years old and I have been working at least 2 jobs at a time since I was eligible to work. I currently work as a nite auditor in a hotel and in retail. I fell in love with the hospitality field, so I did some research and am attending the most accredited online school. Since I live in a very expensive area, I cannot afford to take time off to physically attend college, hence the multiple jobs. Awhile ago, I was commenting to a friend on how proud I am of my 4.0 GPA. She scoffed and boasted about her 3.7 'in a real college'. So I ask, am I wasting my time, or am I on the right track?

Answer:
It depends how accredited and recognised is your degree. MBA nowadays do go online and are recognised. Possibly to list which is your college?
it sure looks better than not having a degree.

You're doing fine.

Attitude and passion will trump a university decal on your car any day.
If the college you attend is accredited there is not problem. Actually, Business professionals will accept that degree, also they will look at the "Big Picture" of your situation. Like here is a person who worked 2 jobs, while getting her education. That's going to go alot further to impress an employer than a person that did college the old fashioned way by attending classes on campus.

Alot of Universities are doing online classes these days, have been doing this for years. I did 3 years of college online had to take my last semester on campus so it worked for me.
In an ideal world, in your future, if you compete with somebody with "a real college" degree, i´d probably would hire him/her instead of you. I think deciding where to study is something to analyze in a long term perspective. Although any sacrifice to study today will have redits in the future (so you are not wasting your time), the more sacrifice, the more redits.
Online and traditional degrees are like fast food and home meal for lunch. If you think it seriously, i dont think you would choose fast food for every lunch in the next 30yrs. About your degree is the same. ...So the fast track you´ve decided may be convenient today, but will only be that in the future until certain point, you must be aware of it.
...Why dont you move to a not too expensive area?. In my opinion, you´re wasting time and money living there! ...the key issues to success are investing (time, money) and work hard. Whatever you´re investing today, you´re saving it to your future. Whatever you´re wasting today, you´ll have a lack of it... Just think of your own past, and you will see there´s some truth in my words.
